Sustainable Europe Research Institute – SERI

SERI  is a Pan-European think tank aiming to explore sustainable development options for European societies. Founded in September 1999, SERI is among the leading Austrian institutes in the field of applied sustainability research. The SERI-Team consists of 15 associates and researchers from various scientific fields, such as economics, ecology, landscape planning, sociology, political sciences, communication and information technology. The inter- and transdisciplinary approach gives SERI the opportunity to operate social issues on a broad perspective and to offer holistic research, advisory and solution. It develops scientifically accurate and practical policy solutions, which allow sustainable development to become a reality in Europe (and beyond) and disseminates this information throughout the stakeholder community.

Dr Friedrich Hinterberger, born in 1959, is the founding president of SERI. Studies of national economics at the Johannes-Kepler University Linz. 1985-1991 scientific member at the Justus-Liebig University Gießen. Since 1985 he has been teaching at universities both in Austria and abroad. 1993-2000 leader of the working group Ecological Economics and Ecological Economical Policy at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. Since 1999 founding president of the Sustainable Europe Research Institute. Board member of the Austrian Chapter of the Club of Rome. Work focus: Ecological Economics, Scenarios for sustainable economies and societies, Quality of Life Research.

Moritz Kammerlander

Moritz Kammerlander, born in 1981, graduated in Sociology and Environmental-System-Sciences at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz. Before his function at SERI he worked in the field of sustainable mobility management at the Austrian Mobility Research Institute (FGM). In recent times he worked in the area of regional development and sustainable tourism in South-Serbia. Since May 2013 he is a scientific researcher in the field of “sustainable quality of life and human well-being” at the Sustainable European Research Institute (SERI). His research foci are on the fields of sustainable sciences, environmental sociology, behavioural research, action theories, socio-ecological transformations and quality of life. – See more here.
